Quick Overview

ICYMI, Monday was the 2023 Met Gala — aka fashion’s biggest night of the year. This year, the theme for the annual party was “in honor of Karl” to celebrate the opening of the Costume Institute’s exhibit “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” The late designer was known for his work as the creative director of Chanel, as well as his work with Fendi and Chloé.

Red carpet looks ranged from actual vintage Chanel dresses to plenty of black-and-white looks (a Karl signature), like Olivia Rodrigo‘s ‘fit. Although it’s her sleek hair look and baby bangs (!!!) that made her look one of the best of the evening.

“For this year’s Met Gala, we wanted to keep it classic,” explained Clayton Hawkins, who styled Olivia’s hair. “As a nod to Karl Lagerfeld and Old Hollywood, we went with a sleek bun with bangs in front.”

If you (like us) are major fans of Olivia Rodrigo’s Met Gala look, Hawkins shared with us the exact routine and hair products he used on our Gen Z queen. The best part? You can find them all on Amazon or at your nearest drugstore for way less than you would think.

Hawkins first detangled Olivia's damp hair with the iconic Tangle Teezer The Ultimate Detangler brush, which is known for its patented two-tier teeth. The special construction gently and effortlessly detangles the hair while reducing breakage for optimally glossy and frizz-free hair.

After her hair was sufficiently detangled, Hawkins coated it in the Dove Hair Therapy 7-in-1 Miracle Mist before diving in with a blow dryer and round brush.

After the blowout was fluffy and dry, Olivia's hair was saturated with the Dove Brilliant Gloss & Repair Serum for a super shiny look that's soft and moldable.
$13 at Walmart
From there, Hawkins used Tangle Teezer’s The Ultimate Styler to brush her hair back into a tight bun. The Ultimate Styler brush is different from The Ultimate Detangler in that it's specifically designed for dry styling, which leaves the hair with a smooth and shiny finish.
$16 at Amazon
After going in on Olivia's Audrey Hepburn-esque baby bangs with more of the serum, Hawkins locked in the entire look with Dove Extra Hold Hairspray. The result? Classic, beautiful and timeless.
