Actress Olivia Munn is expecting her first child with boyfriend John Mulaney, and she shared in a new interview that she’s been struggling with body image during her pregnancy.

Olivia, 41, went on the Pop Culture Spotlight with Jessica Shaw podcast to talk about the bodily changes she’s going through and how they’ve made her think back to insecurities she’s faced in the past.

"I was called so many things, that I was too big to be on TV,” she said of starting out in show business. “Then I would start to under-eat, because I would hear those messages and I would try to take that message myself and be like, 'Fine you think I'm…sure call me fat, I'm fat, sure, whatever.’”

Olivia said that she would “try to own” the things she heard from the public, but ended up internalizing the criticism and developing unhealthy eating habits. Olivia said she started doing a cycle of “eating too much, overeating, under-eating” and the public criticism kept coming.

But pregnancy has caused some of those feelings to resurface, she shared. “How am I supposed to do it right?” she said. “I know there is no right, I understand that, but it's really hard, especially to have so many images in your face all the time of what truly looks like perfection.”

Olivia said she’s also had trouble finding the right clothes to wear during her pregnancy. She pointed out that she talked to a friend about maternity style, who suggest that she talk to supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who is also pregnant.

"Rosie is great and I love Rosie, but … I don't have Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's body at all and that's kind of... the first step in feeling like, 'Oh if I am not handling maternity well, if I'm not looking chic and cool and effortless, and if my body is changing like this that means that I'm failing. That means that I'm already not doing things right,’” Olivia said.

Olivia said she’s also been looking online for style inspiration, which hasn’t been helpful either. “It's just so hard because I will Google search ‘streetwear maternity,’ and a lot of it comes up with these gorgeous women who are super skinny, and have this little bump, and everything is effortless,” she said. “They are wearing the same clothes, just looks a little different and I don't feel the same way.”

Olivia previously hinted to People in September that she was having some body image issues around pregnancy. “It can be difficult as your body is changing and you feel like you look different or your body is putting on weight in different places,” she said. “The consistent image that's portrayed is usually very effortless and fashionable. Mine has been a lot of oversized sweatpants."

Olivia and John have been private about their relationship, but he said on Late Night With Seth Meyers in September that “it is a very lucky thing to have met this woman.” He also said that their relationship is “really beautiful.”
