HBO Max's Gossip Girl reboot is not only keeping up with the times through diverse casting and the latest fashion trendsit's also weaving some of the most well-known pop culture moments into the characters' dialogue.

The first episode included a joke aimed at social media influencer Olivia Jade and her mom, Lori Loughlin, who went to prison due to her involvement in the infamous college admissions scandal of 2019.

The line stems from Gossip Girl's sudden threat toward influencer Julien Calloway (a.k.a JC), who began losing followers after being the target of GG's latest post. JC and her best friends, Monet and Luna, chat about her status on their way to class at Constance Billard. In the episode, viewers get the impression that Monet is JC's manager when she says, "You as someone who loses is bad for business." JC retaliates, saying that she "didn’t lose anything." Luna then makes the reference toward Lori when she says, "Everything will be fine so long as you win. Olivia Jade gained followers when her mom went to jail."

Olivia herself actually took to TikTok to debunk the false statement made by Luna. "No I didn't," she captioned the clip, which includes her shaking her head as the Gossip Girl scene plays behind her. She didn't gain followers from the college admissions scandal; in fact, she took a social media hiatus when everything went down and made a return to YouTube at the beginning of this year. She also joined TikTok, where she partakes in the latest trends and posts lifestyle content.

In case you missed it, Olivia's parents Lori and Mossimo were accused of paying $500,000 in bribes so she and her sister Bella were guaranteed acceptance into the University of Southern California in 2019. In May 2020, they pleaded guilty to the felony charges and served time in jail. They've already served time in prison and have been paying their dues and completing community service for their actions.
