Oktoberfest is coming. Plan now for fall food and beer events in the Lower Hudson

September may have just begun but the month is already filling up fast with a host of food and beer events. After all, it's never too early to start thinking Oktoberfest.

Many places, from Nyack to Haverstraw and White Plains to Peekskill, are hosting food (and beer) events, with many starting this month. Of course there are other culinary-themed shindigs as well, including an apple pie contest (yours truly is a judge) and a sampling of ethnic flavors. Mark your Google calendars and get ready to eat! The following spots promise plenty of fun, food and a celebratory mood.

Sept. 17: Oktoberfest, Peekskill Brewery, Peekskill

The second annual Oktoberfest celebration features live polka music by the Brass Rascals, German food specials and a stein holding competition (for those 21 and older). There's even an Oktoberfest Mug Mile hosted by Brewery Running starting at 11 a.m. 47 S. Water St., 914-734-2337, peekskillbrewery.com
