What is a Magic Avatar?

A Magic Avatar is a feature offered by the Lensa app that takes your photos and turns them into AI-generated images. As the official Lensa app's TikTok says, "Hundreds of avatars based on your face can be generated by Lensa."

What is the Lensa AI app?

Lensa AI is a photo app that not only offers Magic Avatars, but also editing like smoothing skin, highlighting your face to make it the center of the shot, blurring the image background, adding contrast to your eyes and so much more.

At the time of writing, Lensa AI is the number one app listed under "Top Free Apps," with TikTok in the fifth spot and Instagram at number 11, just for context.

There is a free one-week trial, but after that, it's $7.99/month or $29.99/year.

How to get Magic Avatars

To get your own Magic Avatar, you'll want to start by downloading the Lensa AI app, and either purchase a subscription or agree to the seven-day trial. You'll be asked to download 10-20 photos of yourself, and the first payment option starts at under $5 for 50 unique avatars.

Things to consider before downloading the Lensa AI app

There are a few things to think about before downloading Lensa AI. First, know that if you forget to cancel your free trial before the week's end, you will be charged the full year of $29.99.

Also, there are some recent reviews from users who expressed frustration about the app either crashing/not working at all, or pumping out photos that looked like an entirely different person—sometimes with body parts cut off as well. Granted, this is a newer feature available on a brand new update, so there are likely some kinks to work out. And as a whole, the app has a rating of 4.7 stars with over 239k ratings. So they're likely working on a fix!

Finally, with any photo app, there may be concerns about privacy. However, according to TechCrunch, Prisma Labs (the team behind Lensa AI) told them "that it uses AWS cloud services to process users’ photos. As soon as an AI model is trained on a user’s photos, the images are immediately deleted."
