It's time for Dead to Me season 2!

But first, a refresher on season 1: Dead to Me follows Jen (played by Christina Applegate) as she grieves the loss of her husband. While attending a grief support group, she meets Judy (Linda Cardellini), and the two women quickly bond. Jen even goes so far as to invite Judy to live at her home with her family — and then alllllll sorts of secrets start to come out.

The Netflix show is emotional, witty, and edgy, and it's been met with all kinds of positive reviews from casual viewers and critics alike. Now that Dead to Me season 2 will soon be available, here's a look at everything we know about the future of the acclaimed show so far. (Just beware: There are some major season 1 spoilers ahead.)

What is the Dead to Me season 2 return date?

On April 10, Netflix revealed that the show is coming back to the streaming service on Friday, May 8.

Who in the Dead to Me cast will return for season 2?

During the June 3 FYSee panel, Netflix confirmed that Christina and Linda have both signed on for Dead to Me season 2. And that makes sense: Their character's storylines are — obviously — central to the show. In fact, filming wrapped up months ago, according to a December 2019 Instagram post from Linda.

What's more, Variety reported that Natalie Morales (the actress, not the Today show star) will be joining the hit series as a recurring character named Michelle. According to the outlet, Michelle is described as "wry and down to earth" and has a "relaxed charm and infectious wit." She forms a connection with Judy at the assisted living facility where Michelle's difficult mother lives.

Will Steve (James Marsden) be back for season 2? Judging by the trailer, it looks like it!

Are there any Dead to Me spoilers for season 2 yet?

Season 1 ends with what many fans have called a serious cliffhanger: After finding out that Judy was responsible for her husband's death, Jen is found standing over the body of Steve — a.k.a. Judy's ex-fiancé — with a gun in hand. Yikes.

Last May, the show's creator, Liz Feldman, wasn't sure whether Netflix would grant her a season 2. But she did already have some thoughts about where the show would go next. "I'll just say that you don't know that [Jen] shot [Steve]," she told The Hollywood Reporter at the time. "Just like the rest of the show, it's not exactly what you think it's going to be."

In general, though, it sounds like we can expect to see more of the dark humor and complex friendship dynamic between Jen and Judy that we came to love in Dead to Me season 1: "What I will say is that [season 2] will be about the further exploration of this friendship ... between these two women," Liz later told Entertainment Weekly. "In the most basic way, the score has been evened. What I wanted to do was create a situation where they're forced together, and they need each other now in some ways more than they did at the beginning of season 1."

And, according to Christina, season 2 will bring the drama. "We’ve had some stuff in season 2 that is the most intense [stuff] I’ve ever had to do as an actor in my life, with [Linda]," Applegate told the Los Angeles Times.
