The Ohio State women’s hockey team will get a chance to defend its national championship thanks to a win over 3-0 win over Northeastern in a Frozen Four semifinal Friday.

The Buckeyes drew first blood just 1:56 into the contest when Sloan Matthews stuffed in a rebound out in front of the goal. Just like that, Ohio State quickly had the advantage in an all-important first goal with massive stakes on the line.

Neither team was able to get one into the back of the net the rest of the first period, but OSU struck again in the second with Makenna Webster’s one-timer from the slot to make it 2-0.

Hardley Hartmetz made it 3-0 late in the second period with a screened slapper from inside the blue line, and all of a sudden the Buckeyes could begin to feel what was coming. The last period was about shutting things down and making the Huskies work for contested shots, and OSU held on without giving up a goal to move on to the national championship game on Sunday.

Ohio State will play at 4 p.m. Sunday against the winner of Minnesota and Wisconsin with a shot at a back-to-back national championship.
