'The Office' Begins Filming an All-New Reboot With a Huge Twist

Australia is bringing its own version of The Office to small screens around the country and this time around the series will have a twist: the show will be female-led.

This isn't the first time The Office has been adapted in other countries. Variety reports that The Office Australia marks the 13th international version of the series, which was originally created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. The outlet also notes that other versions of the popular series have been produced in Israel, France, Chile and Canada.

Gervais is looking forward to the latest reboot of the series. As he said, "I’m very excited about Australia remaking my little show from the turn of the century. Office politics have changed a bit in 20 years, so can’t wait to see how they navigate a modern-day David Brent."

What is The Office Australia about?

The eight-part series will follow the misadventures of a group of co-workers. This time around, our protagonist is Hannah Howard, who will be adopting the position made popular by Gervais in the UK and Steve Carrell in the United States.

Hannah has recently been told by her head office that her division of the company is shutting down, so she's tasked with making tough decisions and trying to save everything for everyone.

Will any of the American Office Cast Be in the New Series?

Sadly, no. There'll be no Dwight, Jim, Stanley or Pam in the new Australian version of the series which will feature an all-new cast.
