'The Office' Alum Joins Cast of 'Mean Girls' Musical Adaptation
The Dunder Mifflin employee is busting out her musical chops.
Jenna Fischer is set to star in the new Mean Girls film!
The Office actress, 48, has been announced as the latest cast member to join the Paramount Pictures' new film based on the 2017 Tony-nominated Broadway musical.
Fischer will play the role of Cady Heron's mom alongside a star-studded cast, including Angourie Rice (Cady), Reneé Rapp (Regina), Auli’i Cravalho (Janice), Jaquel Spivey (Damian), Avantika (Karen), Christopher Briney (Aaron), Bebe Wood (Gretchen), and two original Mean Girls stars, Tina Fey and Tim Meadows, who will be reprising their respective roles as math teacher Ms. Norbury and Principal Duval.
Cady's mom was originally played by Ana Gasteyer in the 2004 film, with Kerry Butler portraying Ms. Heron in the musical's original Broadway cast, both of which were written by Fey.
The 30 Rock actress, 52, is set to produce the new film alongside Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels, according to Deadline. Arturo Perez and Samantha Jayne are also on board to direct the film with Fey, who is writing the adaptation.
The score will feature music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Nell Benjamin who also worked on the Legally Blonde musical. Kyle Hanagami is set to choreograph the film.
During an interview with Seth Meyers, Fey revealed the kind of music that fans can look forward to in the upcoming film, revealing that many of the songs from the musical were being rewritten to sound more in line with pop music.
"It's a fascinating process, actually, because you kind of- in Broadway, everything has to play to the back of the house and then in movies you can kind of come back in and things can play really intimately," she said before crediting crew members including the director and choreographer.
We can't wait to see what the Mean Girls musical film has in store!
