October Is Texas Wine Month

Everything is bigger in Texas, even the month of October! Many will be abstaining from alcohol because of a rhyming month-long Instagram campaign, but we all know Texans simply put their foot on the gas pedal and take this one to ELEVEN. To ring in Texas Wine Month, Texas Hill Country Wineries are offering a PASSPORT that you can buy to visit up to 4 wineries a day for the entire month of October. Tickets are now on sale for the Texas Wine Month passport event, which spans the entire month of October at over 45 wineries in the beautiful Hill Country.

While most AVA's are known for a specific variety or style, the Texas Hill Country is the land of diversity, which can be particularly exciting as a wide array of wines can be discovered all in one place.

"The Texas Hill Country has really come into its own over the years. Wineries are able to focus on showcasing their outstanding wines after years of hard work with their growers, figuring out what varieties do best here so they can put out the best possible wines. Everything from the world of varieties offered to the adventurous nature of the winemakers and the cultivated experiences at each winery to the daily growth of the entire tourism/hospitality industry here is exciting right now.

The Texas Hill Country is and has been experiencing rapid growth and rejuvenation. These once hidden gem small towns are now on the map as vibrant tourism destinations brimming with unique local shops and restaurants, breathtaking natural landscapes and unrivaled Texas hospitality."

I Recommend A Little Taste Of Texas

Southold Farm + Cellar Skin Contact Trebbiano
Southold Cellar + Farm
I first had this wine poured for me by Roxana Pavel, owner of ALLMINE in Oceanside, CA - I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since! Baking spice, sage, Calvados apples, cardamom, and a length that just wouldn't quit. The team recently moved on from their hilltop tasting room location in Central Texas, but there's big things to come from this Fredericksburg outfit. Winemaker Regan Meador began in NYC, moved the winery operation to Texas, and I know bigger things are coming for Southold Celler + Farm.

View the original article to see embedded media.

Llano Estacado Grüner Veltliner "Kuback Vineyards" 2021
Llano Estacado Winery
This little Texan baddie took home a gold medal from TexSom 2023 - showing that the High Plains are more than just rockin' red wines! Grüner Veltliner, originally from Austria, shows a flinty and pristine mineral quality coming out of the Lynn County vineyard.

View the original article to see embedded media.

CL Butaud Texas Mourvèdre 2021
C.L. Butaud
This is what you imagine a red wine from Texas would taste like. Saddle leather from a horse that the winemaker just finished ridding, sagebrush and red + blue fruit, smoky notes that linger like cigar smoke coming out of a roadside bar. The gun metal black imagery from C.L. Butaud's labels makes you lean in to gather more information. This one whispers brilliance, and you'll want to listen.

View the original article to see embedded media.
