Obama Is Headed to Paris — Here Are His Plans

Barack Obama will be in Paris this weekend for a not-so-secret lunch with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Obama’s visit comes just a few months after President Trump’s visit to the French capital, when he and his wife dined with the French first couple on top of the Eiffel Tower. Obama’s visit will be in a more private capacity so as to not irk the current American president, according to The Local.

The Elysee Palace — the French equivalent of the White House — has not released the location of the “private” luncheon.

Obama’s main reason for visiting Paris is to give a speech at the biannual Les Napoleons summit, a conference for those working in communications.

While in the capital, Obama is also scheduled to meet with Francois Hollande, Macron’s predecessor, according to Paris Match. When Obama was last in Paris in 2015, he dined with Hollande at the three-Michelin-starred l’Ambrosie. At the time, Obama had requested a meal in a restaurant instead of at the palace.

In 2009, Obama lamented that he could not spend more time in the city of light as a tourist. "I would love nothing more than to have a leisurely week in Paris, stroll down the Seine, take my wife out to a nice meal, have a picnic in Luxembourg Gardens,” he said at a press conference.

Obama is currently on a five-day tour of the world, including stops to speak in Shanghai, Beijing, and New Delhi. He will arrive in Paris on Friday.
