'NYPD Blue' Star Austin Majors' Autopsy Report Sheds New Light on His Death

The autopsy report for former NYPD Blue star Austin Majors has officially been made public, revealing what led to the 27-year-old's tragic passing earlier this year.

On Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office shared the final report, which concluded that the actor's death was caused by an overdose of the narcotic fentanyl or "fentanyl toxicity." It cited the manner of his death as accidental and the place as "residence," per records first obtained by TMZ.

As Parade previously reported, Majors, born Austin Setmajer, died on Feb. 11. At the time, his family released the following statement:

"[Austin] Was a loving, artistic, brilliant, and kind human being. Austin took great joy and pride in his acting career. He was an active Eagle Scout and graduated Salutatorian in High School. He went on to graduate from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts with a passion of directing and music producing."

"Austin’s younger sister, Kali, says her fondest memories with Austin were growing up on set with him, volunteering at events with 'Kids With a Cause,' and backpacking together. Austin was the kind of son, brother, grandson, and nephew that made us proud and we will miss him deeply forever," the statement concluded.

Born in California, Majors was best known for his role as Theo Sipowicz, the TV son of actor Dennis Franz's Detective Andy Sipowicz on NYPD Blue.

As a child actor, he was featured in 48 episodes of the Emmy-winning series, airing between 1999 to 2004. He appeared in many other big-name titles like ER, NCIS, According to Jim, Desperate Housewives, and How I Met Your Mother. His career spanned more than just television but feature films as well, starring in An Accidental Christmas and Treasure Planet, among others.
