The actor's family confirmed he passed away in Los Angeles over the weekend.

Former child star on the hit TV series NYPD Blue, Austin Majors, has died. He was only 27.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's website indicated that Majors, born Austin Setmajer, died on Feb. 11 with his cause of death pending further examination.

The actor's family confirmed his passing in a statement first shared with TMZ, noting, "[Austin] Was a loving, artistic, brilliant, and kind human being. Austin took great joy and pride in his acting career. He was an active Eagle Scout and graduated Salutatorian in High School. He went on to graduate from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts with a passion of directing and music producing."

The statement continued: "Austin’s younger sister, Kali, says her fondest memories with Austin were growing up on set with him, volunteering at events with 'Kids With a Cause,' and backpacking together. Austin was the kind of son, brother, grandson, and nephew that made us proud and we will miss him deeply forever.”

A source close to the investigation told the outlet that "no foul play is suspected," and it's "believed he may have ingested a fatal amount of fentanyl" while "staying at a homeless housing facility in Los Angeles."

No other information about the actor's tragic passing was immediately available.

Born in California, Majors was best known for his role as Theo Sipowicz, the TV son of actor Dennis Franz's Detective Andy Sipowicz on NYPD Blue. The child actor was featured in 48 episodes of the Emmy-winning series, airing between 1999 to 2004. He appeared in many other big-name titles like ER, NCIS, According to Jim, Desperate Housewives, and How I Met Your Mother.
