NYFW: Bombshell Denim and Cozy Country Vibes

Designers presented their Fall/Winter 2024-2025 collections at New York Fashion Week last week, offering serious and playful denim looks.

Cinq à Sept delivered a cool take on the ’70s. The brand focused on structured, two-tone denim, offering a blazer, belted work shirt, miniskirt, jeans and full skirts. Traditional wheat stitching enhanced the shape of the garments, contrasting against the dark indigo and black washes. Faux fur, liquid and metallic satin and geometric crystal details delivered the decade’s glam factor.

At The Plaza, Retrofête celebrated the alpha woman with a collection of elevated basics and tailored uniforms. It included cinched blazer dresses, banker stripe separates and classic straight fit jeans reminiscent of the ’90s super model era. Styled with a moto-inspired trench and studded shoes, the blue jeans took on a boss attitude.

While LaPointe embraced snowy light wash denim, the designs were far from being subdued. Inspired by back-to-school season and the “competitive spirit of wanting to stand out on the first day,” the collection offered denim hot pants, a fitted blazer and buckled bomber jacket. The sleeves of a denim trench coat were covered with Mongolian shearling, while ostrich feathers blanketed a pair if cotton jeans. A pair of jeans featured buckles up the side of the legs.

A dark wash denim bustier were among the bombshell looks at Sergio Hudson’s show. The designer also showed a zip-front dress with a brown leather bra top.

While one side of NYFW embraced figure-hugging silhouettes, the other made denim a part of their cozy outlook for fall.

Michael Kors styled a denim skirt with an undone, asymmetrical hem with a chunky sweater and jacket trimmed with Mongolian shearling. Flared jeans paired with an ivory turtleneck sweater.

Collections leaned more toward quieter country looks than cowboy costumes like the bold Western trends seen in men’s Fall/Winter 2024-2025 collections.

Rag & Bone, which was acquired by Guess Inc. and WHP Global last week, favored wide-leg and horseshoe-shaped jeans with classic wool outerwear. Tanya Taylor bundled models up stonewashed jeans, indigo button-down shirts, patterned knits and suede coats. Patterned sweaters, relaxed jeans and slouchy long shorts made up Lingua Franca’s comfy, countryside-inspired collection.

Double denim looks based on simple jackets, work shirts and straight or loose-fitting jeans from Veronica Beard, Nili Lotan, L’Agence and Ulla Johnson underscored the fuss-free vibe.
