This Nursery Nook Is Stylishly Included in the Parents’ Bedroom
Small-space dwellers likely know that when it comes to designing a home, creativity is key. That challenge is only heightened if there are kids involved. For instance, some families turn their closets into nurseries, or some give their bedroom to their children and install a stylish Murphy bed for themselves.
No matter what size their home is, parents are so inventive when cultivating a space for their children. Celia, who owns a decor shop, Sticki Icki, and a YouTube channel, and her partner, Sean, fit this category too.
The couple rent a 760-square-foot Harlem apartment, which is quite large by New York City standards, according to Sean at the time of the house tour. Even though their space might be spacious in square footage, it only had one bedroom, so they needed to figure out how to create a space for their son, Cassius.
“We love the large open floor plan, but we’ve been able to distinguish the spaces by dividing each area with unique and bold styling elements,” Celia said at the time of her house tour.
One room that’s been divided by Celia and Sean’s ingenious design ideas is the primary bedroom. In the corner of the room, an IKEA Pax wardrobe (which houses Sean’s clothes) marks the start of Cassius’ nursery. Next to Sean’s wardrobe, a miniature crib rests adjacent to a DIY IKEA changing table and stacking storage.
But they took delineating the space a step further. The focal wall in the bedroom is painted in Sherwin Williams’ “Anchors Aweigh,” and the decor is mature and textured with splashes of rattan and fluffy pillows. However, Cassius’ nursery nook is more playful — the area behind the crib is adorned with spotted wall decals from Fluke Decor. Animal-themed prints from The Crown Prints also add dimension and childlike whimsy to the corner.
