What Does It Do?

The Sigi glider recliner from Babyletto is a power recliner, glider, and charging port all in one. It's also a gorgeous piece of furniture that's Greenguard Gold certified, tested for over 10,000 volatile organic compounds, and safely-harvested wood.

It’s only 39 x 30.5 x 42 inches (slightly smaller than most recliners), and it can hold up to 300 pounds. The recliner is controlled via up and down buttons, with convenient USB and USB-C ports located between the two for charging. It comes in three neutral colors that are stain-resistant and spot-clean easily. The bottom piece is a gorgeous square of blonde wood that’s easy to maneuver if needed.

This product was designed for nurseries, giving parents a place to rock their baby and put up their feet between night feedings, or when your baby decides the only place they'll calm down is directly on you (which, in my experience, is a common need for babies).

Yes, it's perfect for the nursery, but this recliner also makes for a great addition to any living room, whether or not you have kids. The slim design is appealing and neutrally modern (without the bulky look of a traditional recliner), and still has super-luxe, soft,

CertiPUR-certified foam cushions to provide you with a fantastic place to relax.

Why Do I Love It?

Glider recliners for babies are gaining popularity, and I only look to find the very best out there. Although I was originally testing the Sigi glider-recliner with only new parents in mind as a means to have a comfortable glider to relax in with their little ones, I never thought that I would also wind up discovering my favorite chair of all time.

When I first saw the Sigi’s picture, I thought to myself, “This will probably be good fit for nurseries because of its small footprint, but there’s no way that it’s going to be something that you’ll never want to get out of.” After all, you really only use gliders for short periods of time to feed and cuddle your sleepy baby — but oh, how wrong I was.

I’m no stranger to recliners or even rocker-recliners since my parents have always had one in their house. My major issue with most of them? They’re hideous. Plus, they’re bulky, they’re too wide, and they definitely could never fit my “modern-comfy-meets-dark-academia” aesthetic.

When the Sigi arrived, I was even more dubious about it than ever. It came in a gigantic, heavy box, and just getting it up two flights of stairs made me kind of hate it. And when I began to assemble it, I started to like it even less. I actually Slacked my deputy editor, Joana Mascioli, to express my defeat, saying, “This recliner may have beaten me.” But it turns out, that was all my fault because right there in the directions that I sort of looked at, it tells you that you need two people to put it together. So, I waited until my husband came home, and we got it together, electronics included, in just 5 minutes.

Once we figured out the assembly, we figured out that it's really just two pieces that have to be put together. Plus, the cord for the power recliner and USB and USB-C ports has to be threaded through so you're not rocking on it.

Then, my husband sat in it all night when I went to a press event. Upon my return, he immediately told me, “Honey, that’s my chair.” My husband is a big guy, and generally, he prefers a big chair or a big sofa — and now he’s declared this recliner as his? Yeah, no. I’m the tester in this family, so I’ll be the expert judge here. So I grabbed a book and my baby nephew (because testing, duh) and took a seat. And I sat, and I rocked, and I reclined and sat some more. In fact, legend has it that to this day, she can be seen still sitting there, in the Sigi recliner, writing this article — all the while, I’ve never been more comfortable.

I especially love to sit in the Sigi Glider-Recliner to read, but I also love it to watch television, work, and attempt to nap — it just ticks all of my boxes. As a sensory seeker, rocking is a joy for me. It's a vestibular delight, and this chair has a smooth glide that really can get going if you like that. As someone who likes to sit in the living room and have a cuppa while her Ambien kicks in, this is the best place to do that.

My whole family agrees that this is the chair, but even though I'm the tester, I still have to fight my own children to sit in it. (Nicely, with only mild threats of changing the Wi-Fi password.) It's incredibly comfortable, cradles your body, and it reclines nearly flat, making it a great napping chair. Plus, the padded arms are nice to rest against.

The Final Word

The Sigi Glider-Recliner by Babyletto is comparable in price to its competitors but outshines all that I’ve tried thanks to its quiet, automatic reclining, its ease of cleaning, and its cushy arms and back. If you’re setting up a nursery, you can’t do better. If you’re looking for a comfy-cozy chair? This is also it — it’s just that good. It has designer-level good looks without a designer price tag, matching or beating the prices of similar models.
