Nurse reveals 3 things she’ll never, ever do again after what she’s seen in the ER

Emergency doctors, nurses and other first responders have seen it all when it comes to traumatic accidents and catastrophic injuries. But one nurse on TikTok is opening up about the three things she’ll specifically never do in her own life after what she’s seen in the ER.

TikToker Lex (@travelingnurse), who has worked as an RN for years, shared the video confessional.

“No. 1, we’re going to start off strong,” she says in the clip before naming motorcycles as the first thing she now avoids.

According to a report by Forbes, riding a motorcycle is “undeniably dangerous.” In 2020 alone, 5,579 bikers died in fatal traffic accidents, and 2,143 happened when the driver wasn’t wearing a helmet. Plus, even though motorcycles account for just 3% of all vehicles on the road, they’re involved in 14% of all motor vehicle accidents in the U.S., which is definitely concerning.

The second thing on Lex’s list is a lot less obvious.

“Propane tanks,” she says matter-of-factly. “I have had three — three patients — who have had propane tanks explode on them, and it has left them with debilitating burns.”

The interesting part here, she notes, is that when you start looking into the numbers, they seem pretty low. Most resources will tell you that the likelihood of a propane tank exploding is very rare and that only about 600 cases are reported in the U.S. each year. But that statistic doesn’t sit well with Lex, who believes the true number must be higher — especially because she’s treated all three of her injured patients within the last few months.

“So yeah, everyone else, everyone else can handle the propane. I will simply not be participating,” Lex explains. “Simply put, I like having fingers.”

Last but certainly not least comes No. 3 — and she admits it’s a controversial one: Going to a chiropractor.

Based on the reported numbers, chiropractic injuries — including those to the neck — are considered very rare, but they do happen. In fact, a study conducted in 2010 found 26 cases of deaths caused by a tear in a vertebral artery following a neck adjustment.

After the success of her first video, TikTokers begged Lex for more, and she gladly delivered. In several follow-up posts, the nurse has shared other things she avoids after seeing some gruesome injuries in the ER.

So far, they’ve ranged from holding firecrackers to wearing a seatbelt incorrectly.

Videos like these have become pretty popular lately, with TikTokers from various professional fields opening up about things they’ve learned along the way.

Recently, an ER vet went viral for sharing the top five things he’d never do with his own dog after treating so many injured pups. There was also the funeral director who opened up about the things she’ll never allow her children to play with because she’s “scarred” from holding so many funerals for kids who died from seemingly innocent toys.

While some may find these posts to be a bit alarmist, many TikTokers find them to be informative, eye-opening and necessary.
