Sister Irene is back again for revenge on demon Nun Valak in the newly-released trailer for The Nun 2, the latest entry in The Conjuring franchise. Coming four years after The Nun dominated box offices (grossing over $350 million USD), the sequel will see a multitude of fan-favorite characters return, alongside ample new ones, to continue the unholy tale in 1966 France.

Storm Reid, of Euphoria and Suicide Squad fame, plays a new leading role in the film, while Bonnie Aarons returns as Valak and Taissa Farmiga reprises her role as Sister Irene. Additionally, Katelyn Rose Downey will join the cast as Sophie, and Anna Popplewell will play Marcella.

In the trailer, Sophie expresses her concerns about the presence of an unwanted entity to Sister Irene upon her arrival at her school. "I saw a nun," Sophie says. Lo and behold, viewers become privy to the first jump scare of the demonic Nun's face just a few seconds later. Chaos ensues, as another equally-as-shocking clip sees the Nun grab a child's face through a fireplace. The two-minute trailer comes to a halt with one final shot of Valak, in which the Nun grabs Sister Irene at a coincidentally-arranged magazine stand.

Atomic Monster’s James Wan and The Safran Company’s Peter Safran (who have produced all eight Conjuring movies thus far) spearheaded the film's production alongside filmmaker Michael Chaves, who directed The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It, the film that pushed the franchise over $2 billion USD.

The Nun 2 is set to hit theaters on September 8, 2023. Watch the trailer above.
