#NoWomanEver Shows How Gross Street Harassment Really Is

From ELLE

Street harassment is a reality far too many women face daily. Now, many are coming together to speak out against it on Twitter under the hashtag #NoWomanEver. Instead of just sharing grievances straight-up, however, they're using sarcasm–some even adopting a how-we-met "love story" narrative–to get the point across.

It all started with user CJ, @ImJustCeej, from Atlanta:

And has since been followed with countless other women's stories of cat calls, groping, and more unsolicited, gross approaches:

CJ told Buzzfeed that she started the hashtag after getting Tweets from men claiming "If we don't approach you guys on the street, how are we supposed to meet?" and believing women misinterpret their intentions.

"It just really made me feel like we've had this conversation so many times, they should know to either leave people alone or not engage in the conversation," she said. On using a more humorous approach to the issue, she explained, "I was honestly trying to lighten things up a little bit...I thought the snark and sarcasm behind it would change the energy behind the timeline."
