You Can Now Live Text with Instagram's Favorite Dermatologist

Shereene Idriss, the New York City-based celebrity dermatologist and creator of the viral Instagram stories series #PillowtalkDerm, wants to bring you an experience that normal derms don’t offer: PillowTXTDerm, a chance to text with her live for one week about literally anything—and also skincare, obviously.
This comes fresh off the announcement of the launch of her new line, PillowtalkDerm Skincare by Shereene Idriss Major Fade Solution System, a trio of clinically tested products that help minimize discoloration. The derm’s following of ‘Skin Nerds,’ as she’s coined them, were sent into a frenzy that had the presale of products sold out in 36 hours, leaving behind a waitlist of over 17,000 people.
I had the chance to chat with Idriss (a close friend of mine, who’s also my derm!) earlier this week, who said she was not only utterly overwhelmed and humbled by the response to her line of products—and the want for dark spot correcting formulas — but that she was also completely surprised by the hunger for a streamlined skincare routine.
“I thought, when we launched, we should have less systems prepared and more individual units available, since I know that people like to incorporate products into their own routines,” she told me, “and then all of the sudden 80 percent of people were gravitating toward the system, writing to me ‘thank you for streamlining my routine, I don’t have to think about it anymore.’ So, while each one of the products themselves are extremely powerful on their own, the fact that people were going for the sets from the start was so surprising to me and it’s because people just want simplicity and efficacy when it comes to skincare.” There's more news to come from her brand—so stay tuned to her social media.
But because people are craving community, and because Idriss cares so much about building a super close-knit one (it’s what #PillowtalkDerm was built on after all) she wants to go even deeper with her loyal following of “Skin Nerds.” So, starting on 11/13 through 11/17 (daily from 12 pm EST to 9 pm EST), Idriss will be available for at least one hour daily for you to text her (and her equally skin-obsessed team) about, well…anything.
“The PillowtalkDerm series is all about communication and actually talking to the community more than it’s about the pillows,” Idriss explains. “So the idea of PillowTXTDerm was a very easy extension of it, especially because not everyone wants to log on to Instagram or ask a question publicly over social media. So I thought being able to text me directly was very cool and just the idea of going beyond skincare and talking about other issues could be very fun as well. Plus, communication will always be one of the main pillars of PillowtalkDerm, so I thought this was a good way to expand beyond the pillows and go beyond social and into our phones directly talking to one another.”
How will PillowTXTDerm work?
Again, from 11/13 through 11/17 (daily from 12 pm EST to 9 pm EST) Idriss and her skin-obsessed team (the times she will be on are noted below, but her team can always get in touch with her if you have a question for her outside of her time slot), will be available via text to answer any of your burning questions from skincare to life advice. To kickoff each day, there is a theme (see below), which are the “topics consumers and followers have expressed that they want to learn more about, like how to layer skincare,” Idriss says. She and her team will touch on those topics as well as any other questions you want to text them about from beauty products, skincare, advice, insights, and beyond.

“I love doing the PillowtalkDerm love advice edition, so I thought it would be fun to tackle this topic here and have people who might be otherwise embarrassed to ask a love question publicly over social be able to just text it to me in a more intimate setting,” she adds. “Plus, I don’t know exactly who follows me, but for the ‘Learnings as a Startup’ theme, this won’t be for everyone but there has been a lot to learn—not just as a startup and entrepreneur but for life, so if anyone wants to ask those questions, I’m happy to give candid advice.”
