You Can Now Glamp at Sea in This Ultimate Cruise Ship Adventure

Any die-hard cruise fan can rattle off the benefits of a ship-bound vacation: convenience, relaxation, ease of planning, unlimited food, and (if you’re lucky) 24-hour pizza and ice cream.

Once upon a time, however, the quality of your sleeping quarters would typically not be something you’d brag about.

But cruise ship accommodations have come a long way. Penthouse suites can now run the size of a five-bedroom house and boast perks like private massage rooms, spacious terraces, and $200,000 beds (really!).

Still, the latest cruising stay offers something all the mega-luxury suites do not: the opportunity to fall asleep, peacefully and permissibly, on the top deck of the ship.

Celebrity Flora, the first ship ever designed exclusively for cruising the Galapagos Islands, recently revealed its plans for a one-of-a-kind “Glamping at Sea” experience. For $299 per night, up to two couples will be able to fly solo on the usually crowded top deck, reveling in the ocean breezes and enjoying curated meals prepared exclusively for the experience. Two cabanas will be reserved specifically for each couple, with one outfitted with a double bed for sleeping, and the other for drinking and dining.

As part of the glamping experience, guests will sip wine while watching the sunset and feast on campfire-inspired fare (s’mores included!). To highlight the spectacular views and starry skies, a naturalist will be on hand to point out landmarks and constellations visible from this region of the world only. After snoozing in the sea breeze, couples are greeted with a full alfresco breakfast served bedside.

If this sounds like your cup of tea, the experience is offered as a one-night-only upgrade to cruisers who book a 10- or 11-night Galapagos tour aboard the Celebrity Flora. (Not to worry—all-suite accommodations elegantly fashioned by Ecuadorian designer Adriana Hoyos mean your nights not on deck are ultra-luxurious, too.) Offered as an all-inclusive vacation, the cruise package includes air transfer to the Galapagos from Quito, Ecuador, and the option to book a variety of excursions from hiking and wildlife viewing to deepwater snorkeling.
