You Can Now Earn Hyatt Points By Staying in Oasis Vacation Rentals

Hyatt's new program is hotel meets home-share.

Last August, Hyatt hotels invested in Oasis, a home rental company that feels like a hotel. Now, Hyatt loyalty members will reap the benefits, getting World of Hyatt points for booking with Oasis, so you can now earn (and burn) points on home stays without losing your Hyatt elite status perks. Hyatt's move couldn't come at a better time, beating out Airbnb, which is primed to launch its first 'superguest' loyalty program (specific details yet to be announced) later this year.

Starting March 1, World of Hyatt program members will get five points per dollar spent on Oasis bookings. If you've already got status with Hyatt—in any of their Discoverist, Explorist, or ultra-elite Globalist tiers—you'll be able to request late check-out for your Oasis stay, as well as receive extra points that can be used towards free Hyatt hotel stays. If you want to use your existing points for a free Oasis home, you'll be able to redeem increments of 15,000 points for $200 of credit. Plus, you get three points per dollar (that can be used towards free stays, not elite status), if you have a Hyatt credit.

So what makes Oasis different from Airbnb, or OneFineStay, or Kid and Coe, or any of the myriad other home rental sites out there? There's the points. Then there's in-person check-in to make sure your get in and settled without a hitch, fresh linens, Malin and Goetz toiletries, working Wi-Fi, and the on-demand, local concierge services that'll help you book a tour (at a discount) or get you a corner table at that hot wine bar. You can also pack on upgrades, like a pre-stocked fridge, a private driver, and what they call a "megabar," that'll put your mini liquor bottles to shame. And, if you were missing that hotel gym (let's be honest, you weren't), many local gyms have discounts for Oasis guests to book personal trainers or classes, so you can build a local routine.

At first glance, it sounds counterintuitive: Hyatt wants you to stay in someone's home... But you can find an Oasis in a lot of places that Hyatt isn't, like Rome, Cartagena, and even Barcelona—like this colorful, three-bedroom apartment overlooking the Mediterranean in the Spanish city, with a washer/dryer, parking, terrace, and air conditioning, for less than $150 a night. If you're wondering, wait, Hyatt doesn't have a hotel in Rome, the hotel chain only has 700 properties compared to Oasis's 2,000. While you'll find Hyatt hotels in cities like Austin or Paris, where Oasis also has homes, you won't find a participating hotel in São Paulo, Ibiza, or Milan. You will find a Oasis home or apartment, though and you'll be earning Hyatt points during your $360-a-night stay at that dope beachfront apartment overlooking Copacabana in Rio.
