You Can Now Get a Cheaper Steam Deck

refurbished steam deck

The Steam Deck has been a massive boon, both for Valve, the company that created it, and for any gamer who wants to curl up in bed and play Baldur’s Gate 3 without having to stream it to a phone or tablet. The handheld gaming PC is a great little device, but one of the things holding many back is its price.

The good news is that it’s now a little bit cheaper to pick yourself up a Steam Deck — if you’re willing to compromise a teensy bit. After a brief leak earlier in the week (whoops) Valve has announced that it’s selling refurbished Steam Deck consoles, with all three models of the handheld getting a discount.

The more you spend, the bigger the discount is, which makes sense in the grand scheme of things. If you buy the 64GB model, you’ll save about $80, while going for the top-end 512GB will save you a whopping $130 all up.

Now, as these are technically used consoles, there may be what Valve calls “minor cosmetic blemishes or scratches,” which is a risk you run into whenever you buy a refurbished product. Valve does test all the screens, inputs, audio, and internals, and they do a check of the battery to make sure it’s not on its last legs.

The best part is that refurbished Steam Decks have a one-year warranty, just like a new console, so if something goes wrong you can get it repaired or replaced. That’s only if you get it directly from Steam though — if you buy a refurbished Deck from Gamestop (the only other place selling them), you’ll have to go through its warranty process instead of Valve’s.

The discounts on refurbished Steam Decks are as follows:

  • 64GB – $319 (down from $399)

  • 256GB – $419 (down from $529)

  • 512GB – $519 (down from $649)
