Notorious Wave Hog Attacked in ‘Possibly Criminal’ Surf Altercation (Clip)

Huntington Beach isn’t quite as much of a zoo as other popular southern California surf spots – Malibu, Lowers, etc. – but there’s still some wild animals in the water.

Maybe it’s because Surf City, USA has more space, more takeoff zones, a variety of peaks up and down the beach, which leads to less conflict in the lineup. But at the HB Pier, things can get a little cramped, meaning altercations are not uncommon.

Like below, in which one surfer flung their board at another, after an apparent drop-in.

Captioning the clip, they wrote:

“9/15/23 NS Huntington Beach Pier. Meanwhile in Huntington Beach. Guys this is not how we do it…dangerous and possibly criminal.”

At first glance, the incident appears pretty straightforward – one surfer drops in on another, the first surfer hurls their board at the shoulder-hopped, and they both fall. Even afterwards, they both seem okay, and appear to paddle away separately.

However, in the comments, the plot thickens.

“Maybe the dude in the orange suit shouldn't burn everyone,” wrote one commenter, referring to the snaker and apparent victim of the surfboard assault. “He does it all the time.”

Then, the snaker fired back:

“You guys have a problem with me be a man and come talk to me face-to-face don’t be a pussy and talk shit on social media.”

Someone else wrote:

“Someone is gonna take you up on that, question is would you be a man and not press charges if you got hurt?”

Is surf aggression on the rise? Like we saw recently with the local news investigation to the north of HB about angry locals at Topanga? Or nothing new? Same 'ol, same 'ol.

Either way, things are getting heated right now down in HB.
