Harry Styles can officially add "award-winning actor" to his already impressive resumé. Since embarking on his solo career, Harry has crafted number one albums and played sold-out arenas, but he's also taken his talents to the silver screen. In 2017, he landed a role in Christopher Nolan’s war film, Dunkirk, and has gone on to star in Olivia Wilde’s thriller Don’t Worry Darling alongside Florence Pugh. His next movie, My Policeman, is set in 1950s Brighton, England. The romantic drama follows a closeted police officer named Tom Burgess, who’s living in a society where being gay is illegal. He explores his sexuality through a secret affair with museum curator Patrick Hazelwood (David Dawson), while dating a female school teacher named Marion (Emma Corrin).

When does My Policeman come out?
According to an exclusive report by Vanity Fair, My Policeman hits theaters on Friday, October 21, 2022, and will be available to stream on Prime Video on November 4, 2022. Subscriptions start at $8.99/month.
Prior to its big screen debut, My Policeman is slated to air at the BFL London Film Festival on Saturday, October 15, and Sunday, October 16. Unfortunately, Harry won't be in attendance for the big day because he'll be performing in Chicago as part of his Love on Tour.
According to Daily Mail, a source close to the singer and actor revealed that Harry is "gutted – but he doesn't want to let down his fans in Chicago." The source added, "Starring in My Policeman means the world to Harry, and attending the London film premiere would have been very special. Music will always be his priority, though, and he's committed to fulfilling every one of his Love On Tour dates."
Who’s been cast in the movie?
While we’re all looking forward to seeing Harry Styles in his starring role, My Policeman has a super talented ensemble of actors. The Crown’s Emma Corrin plays Marion, the school teacher that Tom starts dating early on in the story. Emma was cast ahead of the season 5 premiere of The Crown, where they starred in their breakout role as Princess Diana. Peaky Blinders actor David Dawson has taken on the role of Patrick, a museum curator that catches Tom’s eye. The film also features Linus Roache, Gina McKee, and Rupert Everett as older versions of the characters.
Harry initially wasn’t considered for any roles in the film. According to director Michael Grandage, Harry’s team had approached him after reading the script and becoming “very interested” in the movie. The Vanity Fair article revealed that Michael was “immediately impressed” by Harry, who came to their first meeting as a “fully formed actor.”
“He had read the script so many times that he knew every single beat of it at that meeting. I found that incredibly impressive. He knew other people’s lines; he knew all of his lines. He knew why he wanted to talk about it, why one scene worked this way and another worked,” Michael told the outlet.
What is My Policeman about?
My Policeman is based on the novel of the same name by Bethan Roberts. The book is inspired by the true story of E.M. Forster and his relationship with his lifelong friend Bob Buckingham and his wife. The book's synopsis is as follows:
It is in 1950s’ Brighton that Marion first catches sight of Tom. He teaches her to swim in the shadow of the pier and Marion is smitten—determined her love will be enough for them both. A few years later in Brighton Museum Patrick meets Tom. Patrick is besotted with Tom and opens his eyes to a glamorous, sophisticated new world. Tom is their policeman, and in this age it is safer for him to marry Marion. The two lovers must share him, until one of them breaks and three lives are destroyed.
Is there a trailer for My Policeman?
Yes! Harry’s official fan account, HSHQ, uploaded a new trailer for the film on September 7. The nearly two-minute clip gives viewers a deeper glimpse into Tom’s relationship with his wife, Marion, and David, and how all three of them interacted. “To all of us!,” they cheer at the beginning of the clip. We see shots of Tom and Marion falling in love, and then Tom and David eventually fall for one another, which leads to a breakdown in Tom’s relationship with his wife. “He’s trying to destroy our marriage,” Marion says at one point in the clip. “He was always in your life. In our lives,” an older version of herself says later.

HSHQ posted the film’s first trailer on Instagram on June 15. In it, we see Harry, Emma, and David in action for the first time. Let’s just say it was a happy Pride month indeed.

Yep. In an exclusive first look with Vanity Fair on June 9, we saw two stills from the movie. It’s a great day because Harry is in both of these pics with his cast mates, Emma and David.
Photos of Harry, Emma, and David on set also surfaced online in May 2021. In them, Harry is (quite literally) frolicking around in his police uniform. Seriously, we can’t make this up — see for yourself below.
