As Thanksgiving weekend comes to a close, Winter Storm Ezekiel will bring the first heavy snow of the season to the Northeast as it meets a nor'easter which formed off of the coast of New England.

Boston could see between 3 and 6 inches of snow along its coast. After a brief sleet or snow today in New York, 1 to 3 inches of snow could fall overnight in the Big Apple.

For both cities, this will be the first accumulating snow of the season, according to the Weather Channel. (An accumulating snow is 0.1 inches or more of snowfall.) The same is true for the New England cities of Hartford, Conn., and Providence, R.I.

But those snowfall figures pail in comparison to what meteorologists at the network predict for other less urban areas: Up to 18 inches could fall in Albany, N.Y. More than a foot of snow is likely to come to parts of New England, too.

The weather will impact travelers across the country as they head home from Thanksgiving vacation. Indeed, airlines began to waive flight change fees Saturday in anticipation of disrupted travel. Sunday was set to be the busiest travel day of all time for the nation's airline industry, according to an estimate from Airlines for America. The trade group predicted a record 3.1 million passengers on Dec. 1.

The storm has already triggered severe weather warnings, meaning that it's best to stay inside as much as possible if you live in one of the impacted areas. So turn on the Hallmark Channel and see how many movies you can watch over the next day as you avoid those potentially dangerous ice and winds.

If you need a break from your small screen, take your Hallmark Monopoly game out of the box to bring the holiday action to life in the comfort of your own home—or shop the network's exclusive holiday line on your phone to find the perfect Christmas gift for the Hallmark megafan in your life.
