North America's Fastest 10-Person Gondola Is Nearly Finished

Steamboat Resort, Colorado, announced earlier this week on September 12th that it had officially completed cabled splicing for the Wild Blue Gondola expansion, a piece of resort infrastructure slated to become North America's longest and fastest 10-person gondola.

Tune in to the update below.

From the caption:

"Yesterday the second and final splice for the upper section of the Wild Blue Gondola was completed. One step closer to debuting the longest, fastest 10-person gondola in North America."

The first phase of the Wild Blue Gondola opened to skiers last season, providing access to the Bashor, Greenhorn Ranch, and Thunderhead lifts.

Now, Steamboat is polishing off Wild Blue's second phase, which travels from the mid-station to Sunshine Peak. As noted before, once this second phase is completed, Wild Blue will be the longest and fastest 10-person gondola in North America.

The process shown in the above video is called cable splicing, wherein two ends of a lift cable are joined together -- doing so is highly technical and typically involves large crews.

Steamboat anticipates opening the second leg of the Wild Blue Gondola this upcoming December.
