  • There will be new, original footage of Normal People as part of the Irish TV network RTÉ One's benefit for the U.K. charity Comic Relief.

  • Called Normal Older People, the sketches imagine what happens between lead lovers Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Connell (Paul Mescal) 40 years from now.

  • Normal People, adapted from Sally Rooney's bestselling novel, premiered in April on Hulu and BBC to much acclaim.

For those of us still breathless from the Normal People finale, good news: There's more to come from your favorite on-and-off-again couple, Connell Waldron and Marianne Sheridan. A new installment of the breakout Hulu and BBC drama is coming tomorrow in the form of two charity specials benefitting the U.K. organization, Comic Relief. However, the skits will air in Ireland on the network RTÉ One—along with other programs from Irish stars like Andrew Scott, Hozier, and Chris O’Dowd—on Friday night.

Normal People's contribution to the philanthropic telethon will feature stars Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones reprising their roles as Connell and Marianne 40 years in the future. Oscar-winning filmmaker Lenny Abrahamson, who lensed the series, directed the shorts too.

"There’s a beautiful piece called Normal Older People, which is imagining what would have happened to Marianne and Connell 40 years from now. I promise you, these are two very special bits," screenwriter Richard Curtis (Notting Hill, Love Actually), who founded Comic Relief, teased while speaking to RTÉ Radio 1.

“It’s so much better than anything we’ve ever made,” he added. “I mean, I can’t even say everything about it because there’s a guest star in it. But it’s really, it’s really beautiful. One of the things about Comic Relief is it just gives opportunities for things to happen that would never happen. I can’t imagine any context in which they would have allowed this little sort of extra special into the world of Normal People.”
