Weighted blankets are popular for helping people relax, feel calm and ultimately get a better night’s sleep. However, if you want to really wrap yourself up in something cozy, consider a weighted robe. Namely, the Gravity Weighted RobeNordstrom just marked it down to 60% off.

The plush Gravity Weighted Robe is great for helping you unwind after a long day. However, the whole robe isn’t weighted — you’d probably have a hard time standing up if it were. Instead, there’s a 3-pound weighted wrap inside the collar that provides gentle yet deep touch pressure stimulation to your shoulders and around your neck.

The weighted wrap is removable if you need a break or want to take it out to wash your robe. Simply unzip the collar and take it out.

“Weighted blankets have been around for a long time, especially for kids with autism or behavioral disturbances,” Dr. Cristina Cusin, an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, said in a blog post for the university. She explained that weighted blankets are one of the sensory tools commonly used in psychiatric units to help people calm down.

Essentially, weighted blankets and robes simulate something called deep touch pressure, which can foster a calming sensation that’s similar to a hug or cuddling. However, there isn’t a lot of research on this. Cusin credits that to the difficulty of a study — subjects would automatically know if they were using a weighted blanket or not, so they probably wouldn’t be able to provide a fair assessment.

Still, a lot of people swear by weighted blankets for reaching total relaxation, which in turn can help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.

So, why not try a weighted robe? It’s the same idea, but maybe even cozier.
