Noah Turns the Adidas Gazelle Up a Notch

There are two big-name Adidas silhouettes: the Stan Smith and the Superstar. Right below them is the Jonah Hill-co-signed Samba. And just below that notch is a sleeper hit: the Adidas Gazelle, a beloved sporty trainer that punches way above its weight. It is also a favorite of Noah co-founder and designer Brendon Babenzien, who hand-picked a slimmer version of the Gazelle OG for his label’s latest collaboration with the Three Stripes.

The duo of sneakers falls right into the world of elevated menswear that Babenzien has built over at Noah. The origins of the Gazelle can be traced back all the way to the 1960s, but Babenzien has honed in on a distinct aesthetic: New York City during the late 1980s and early 1990s, plus a little bit of his childhood Long Island. The collection gives a relatively unexpected take on the style, with two extremely bold versions inspired by Noah’s mainline collection. The first Gazelle opts for canvas material with multi-color camo print of hunter orange and other earthy tones, while the second features a loud cheetah print set in fuzzy pony hair. There is something about the Gazelle silhouette—sporty but not too athletic, simplistic but not boring—that makes it a perfect candidate for the striking color updates that we see here.

The Gazelle OG is also lighter and less clunky than its predecessor, making it feel more modern while still evoking retro vibes. Which is to say this is the type of sneaker that is going to look on-point for years to come. Maybe take a page out of the lookbook and pair it with some roomy trousers or cinched sweatpants. Or, if you’re feeling extra bold, maybe even wear the camo ones with the matching parka.
