Noah Schnapp has officially come out as gay. In a TikTok posted to his account on January 5, 2023, the Stranger Things star took part in a trend and lip-synced to a sound that says, “You know what it never was? That serious. It was never that serious. Quite frankly, would never be that serious.”

The trend that circulated the video-sharing app typically included text that comedically described a situation that happens to demand more careful consideration. The text in Noah’s video reads, “When I finally told my friends and family I was gay after being scared in the closet for 18 years and all they said was ‘we know.’”

In the comments section of his TikTok, Noah was met with an outpour of support from celebs and fans alike. “Welcome king,” TikToker and Meghan Trainor’s BFF, Chris Olsen, wrote. Another fan chimed in, saying “Good for you for being your true self!” while someone else jokingly commented, “He said method acting 🕺.”

“I guess I’m more similar to Will than I thought,” he captioned the post, alluding to his Stranger Things character Will Byers, who he revealed was queer in a 2022 interview with Variety. “Obviously, it was hinted at in season 1: It was always kind of there, but you never really knew, is it just him growing up slower than his friends? Now that he’s gotten older, they made it a very real, obvious thing,” Noah told Variety. “Now it’s 100% clear that he is gay and he does love Mike.”

In a January 2023 interview with IndieWire, co-star and IRL friend Finn Wolfhard (who plays Mike Wheeler) had the *sweetest* thing to say about Noah’s coming out. “I’m incredibly proud of Noah for coming out publicly like that. I think it was so incredible and brave,” he said.

In a TikTok with over 1.8 million likes, Noah also revealed a supportive text message that he received from his grandfather after coming out. “Hey noah I became aware today of your public announcement that you are gay. I just want you to know that I love you the same and I 'm happy for you to be open and to be yourself. Just be proud of who and what you are. Iris and I are supportive of your honesty and ability to express your true self! Love you to the moon and back. ❤️❤️❤️❤️😘😘😘,” the heartwarming text read.

“PROTECT HIM AT ALL COSTS NOAH,” one fan wrote. “IN GRANDPA SCHNAPP WE TRUST HE SEEMS SO NICE,” another commented. We second that — these are some of the cutest texts we’ve ever seen.

The actor made our hearts soar once again on Sunday, June 25, when he took to Instagram to share a glimpse into his first Pride celebration since coming out in January. “First pride❤️,” he wrote alongside a carousel of images of himself, friends, and fam in New York City. In the first photo, Noah wears the biggest smile and a “Straight Outta the Closet” tank as he dances in the fountain in Washington Square Park, while the next couple of pics include a sweet moment between him and his mom and a candid shot at a rooftop pool party.

When it comes to season 5 of Stranger Thingswhich hasn’t yet started production due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike — Finn revealed his hopes for characters Mike and Will in the upcoming season. “As far as the Mike and Will relationship goes, I always found it kind of funny, especially last season of Mike just being so clueless. I would imagine Mike is going to be totally accepting of Will, and I really want Will to have a really happy ending. And I think he will. What’s going to be so awesome about season five is that the Duffers are sort of trying to thread this needle of trying to get every character to have their perfect ending. So I’m excited to see what ends up happening.”
