No Wi-Fi, no problem for Moab resort named among best in the world for new hotels

MOAB, Utah (ABC4) — No Wi-Fi, no air conditioning, no TV? No problem for this Moab resort, which was just listed among the best new hotels around the world — and that lack of “amenities” might just be the reason why.

ULUM Moab (pronounced OOH-LOOM) is a brand new luxury outdoor resort situated in the heart of the red rock landscape near Moab and yes, you read that right, it doesn’t have some the amenities you would expect in a luxury resort. Despite this, AFAR Magazine included it on their short list of the best new hotels worldwide.

“Seeing ULUM Moab recognized by AFAR on the global stage as one of the best new hotels in the world is a tremendous achievement and testament to our incredible team at ULUM who continue to go above and beyond for every guest,” said CEO Matt Gaghen.

Guests at the seasonal resort stay can stay in one of 50 safari-inspired canvas tents on 200 acres of land overlooking Canyonlands National Park. Each tent has a private elevated deck, a king-sized bed, electric blankets, a wood-fire stove (wood included), and a rain shower. But no Wi-Fi.

The resort sees the disconnect as one of the main reasons to stay.

A spokesperson for the resort told ABC4 that not providing Wi-Fi incentivizes people to “disconnect from the grid” and connect with nature instead. ULUM’s, and its parent company Under Canvas’, goal is to have people embrace nature and not be plugged into their phones during their getaway.

The resort gives plenty of opportunities for guests to break away from technology. A stone’s throw away from Canyonlands National Park and Arches National Park, there is plenty of nature to take in.

As a seasonal resort, ULUM Moab is only open for guests when the weather is nice enough for an outdoor stay. Gaghen told ABC4 the resort just opened for its second season, which lasts until October.

“We are excited for guests from every corner of the world to come through out doors and experience the magic of ULUM Moab for themselves,” said Gaghen.
