The rumors about record-breaking tennis world champion Serena Williams playing and beating everyone at the royal wedding reception were too amazing to be true. Sadly, it seems if you assumed that Williams’s competitive streak would extend into talents in the beer pong area, you were wrong.

The phenom herself cleared the air, speaking with a reporter from the Associated Press at the French Open.

“Not even remotely true,” she said. “I don’t even drink beer.”

Williams attended the wedding and reportedly raucous reception of her friends the actress turned duchess Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

Williams said that she and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, had “a big laugh” about the beer pong report.

It makes perfect sense. Despite what beer advertisers tell you, most elite athletes are not big beer drinkers. Most athletes avoid high-carb and sugary drinks, particularly in the weeks before a big event (like the French Open). She’s also alluded to tough training after giving birth to the couple’s first child, a daughter, Alexis.

And then there’s this: The only easily found images of Serena Williams drinking alcohol are all of her drinking champagne. There don’t seem to be any pictures of her drinking anything but Gatorade, water, or champagne. Even the champagne photos are rare: She’s normally spraying it after a big win on the courts, not drinking it.

So how did this get started? Maybe it was the sneakers she wore under her ball gown to the reception that convinced everyone she was there to play, not just slay.

Now that we’ve cleared this up, hopefully we’ll soon know more about what was going through Chelsy Davy’s head during the ceremony.
