No, Scott Evans isn't tired of 'Barbie' pink mania just yet

We can’t get ken-ough!

Scott Evans, who played one of the Kens in Barbie alongside Ryan Gosling and was featured as Out’s cover star alongside costars Alexandra Shipp and Hari Nef, walked the 2024 Oscars red carpet on Sunday, Mar. 10 to represent the biggest blockbuster of 2023.

“Even if I was tired, you wouldn’t know,” Evans told Out's Raffy Ermac about walking the Oscars red carpet for the first time. “Listen, I don’t drink coffee, but I had one before I came. So if I’m a little jumpy… that’s why!”

When asked which question he’d like not to get asked again for the rest of his life, the Barbie actor shared a lighthearted response. “Well, it’s not that I never want to hear it, but I’ve been asked a lot about my Ken-ergy today [laughs]. But hey, we got it. Bring it in! I think I was born with Ken-ergy, so I can’t let it go.”

Some Hollywood insiders expected that the 2024 Oscars red carpet would be taken over by people wearing pink outfits and accessories as a result of Greta Gerwig’s directing snub and Margot Robbie’s acting snub from their work in Barbie. Some stars did wear pink, but not as many as it was perhaps expected.

“What’s funny is that I remember, last summer, anyone I saw [wearing] pink I was like, ‘They must be going to see Barbie,’” Evans joked. “And it was like, ‘No, no, Barbie doesn’t own the color.’ People wear pink on their own.”

The actor also commented on the LGBTQ+ representation at the 96th Academy Awards, from Colman Domingo to Jodie Foster. “I love the queer representation! You know, me and Alex [Alexandra Shipp] and Hari [Nef], and all the people from the movie, we talk. But everybody is so supportive of everything. So yeah, the queer representation is on and popping!”

Before wrapping the interview, Out digital director Raffy Ermac brought up the “Barbenheimer” phenomenon of Barbie and Oppenheimer and asked Evans which double-feature event he’d like to see next. “You know, I will say I’m very excited for the Wicked and Moana 2 moment we’re gonna have this year,” Evans explained. “People are calling [it] ‘Moaned,’ but I’m okay with ‘Wowana.’”
