There Will Be No Fenty x Puma by Rihanna Show This Season

After staging a spectacular Spring 2018 show at the New York Armory, Fenty x Puma by Rihanna announced that the brand would not be showing during the Fall 2018 season.

Rihanna giveth, and Rihanna taketh away. After staging a spectacular Spring 2018 show at the New York Armory complete with neon-pink sand dunes, motocross jumpers, and one of her most concise collections to date, Fenty x Puma by Rihanna announced that the brand would not be showing during the Fall 2018 season.

The news of Fenty x Puma by Rihanna’s seasonal skip is just the latest in a string of high-profile calendar shifts throughout the industry. Earlier in January, Alexander Wang announced its February 2018 show would be its last at New York Fashion Week. Starting in June, it will show on a June/December schedule as a part of a potential new CFDA initiative. This season, New York Fashion Week will also be missing a J.Crew presentation (on hiatus); Public School (going direct-to-consumer); Altuzarra, Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, and Thom Browne (in Paris). Paris Fashion Week has lost Vetements, Acne Studios, and Ellery to its couture week in January. And if all that wasn’t confusing enough, there is also the matter of all the coed men’s and women’s shows that will occur during Fashion Week, a small sampling of which include Tom Ford in New York, JW Anderson in London, Gucci in Milan, and Balenciaga in Paris.

This disruption of a traditional schedule might be long overdue, but even the most progressive fashion follower has to admit that the thought of a Rihanna-free fashion month is pretty bleak. But perhaps we shouldn’t worry—with no show to prepare for, Rihanna has more time to attend shows. Maybe she’ll do it in new Fenty x Puma by Rihanna outfits, too. Hey, it worked for Yeezy!
