Nintendo Offers Preview of Side-Scrolling ‘Super Mario Bros. Wonder’

Nintendo is teasing its forthcoming 2D title for Switch, Super Mario Bros. Wonder. The upcoming platform game will take on the traditional side-scrolling format off of which the franchise originally became popular, an exciting development for fans that previously played titles such as the Wii U’s New Super Mario Bros. U.

During its Direct livestream, Nintendo offered a look at Wonder around the 30-minute mark. In the video, both playable characters and the different environments they occupy are teased. Gamers can play as Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Toadette, Yoshi and more. There are also variations of the namesake characters, like Blue Toad and Red Yoshi. As for their adversaries, fans of the series will recognize the familiar faces of Koopa Troopa and Boo, among others.

Nintendo previewed seven different worlds, including Pipe-Rock Plateau, Fluff-Puff Peaks and Shining Falls. Players will be able to navigate the landscapes using a dedicated map and pick different levels to enter, which vary in degrees of difficulty.

Wonder will be available in both single-player and multiplayer modes, including a friend racing mode. Up to four players can compete at a time.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder will launch for the Nintendo Switch on October 20.
