Nintendo Announces 'Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope'

After a massively successful release of Ubisoft and Nintendo's Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle back in 2017, the two developers are reuniting once again for a sequel titled Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. A successor to the collaborative debut, the new game will once again bring together Mario and Luigi and their iconic entourage with the band of misfit rabbits, embarking on a brand new adventure that'll see them journeying through numerous planets to bring order back to the galaxy.

Causing trouble this time round is Cursa, described by Ubisoft as "a mysterious and malevolent entity" that is seeking out "energy to further its nefarious plans, plunging the galaxy into chaos," through consuming the energy of Sparks, a type of hybrid creature formed by the fusion of Lumas and Rabbids.

Gameplay-wise, Sparks of Hope retains much of the system from Kingdom Battle, where players will traverse the lands in a third-person perspective. Upon confronting enemies, a turn-based battle sequence will initiate, and you'll be able to control three main heroes from a roster of nine to fight off your enemies. Each character will have their own special abilities, and you can either direct them to fight alone or work together as a team for special combo moves.

For fans of the series, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope will arrive on October 20. Pre-orders are now available over on Nintendo's website for $60 USD.

Elsewhere in gaming, Square Enix has unveiled a Final Fantasy-styled farming simulator called Harvestella.
