Nikki Bella Addresses the Confusion Over Her Current Relationship With John Cena
It’s not easy to keep up with Nikki Bella and John Cena’s relationship status, especially since the drama is currently playing out on Nikki and Brie Bella’s TV show, Total Bellas. After a recent episode caused some confusion among viewers, Nikki took to YouTube on July 1 to give fans an update on her love life.
The WWE wrestler called off her engagement to Cena back in April, three weeks before they were supposed to get married. However, during the latest episode of Total Bellas, fans watched Nikki prepare for her wedding, which led many to believe that the couple had reconciled.
In her YouTube video, Nikki explained to her followers that the Total Bellas scenes were filmed when she and Cena were still together. “I’ll admit my relationship, it has been a super emotional roller coaster ride, and I think it’s hard for people to understand because we film and things get shown a few months after and I think people are like, ‘Are they together? Are they not?'” Because of that, she said, she felt the need to clarify their status: “Right now, we’re just friends.”
Which is not to say that couldn’t change. “We are both working on each other and trying to work on us,” she continued. “We talk every day. He is not only my best friend but he truly is one of the most amazing people I have ever met. He has patience with me, and he has really taught me a lot over the past few months. I think one of those things is an inner strength that I thought I had, but didn’t realize how strong I had it.”
She went on to say that she has “hope” for them, and that with Cena overseas filming a movie, they have time to figure out what they really want for their future.
“I know, for some people, because of the media or what they read on social media, they look at this as a very negative thing,” she continued. “But for all of you who are going to get married, who are engaged, or who are married, I think you understand, this is forever. I don’t want to be someone who has a divorce or who has kids and then gets a divorce. I truly want to walk down that aisle and I want to give my vows and I want this to be one time, so there’s a lot of issues that I had to deal with [to] really know what I wanted for the rest of my life.”
She added that she’s grateful to have such an “amazing man” to help her work through those issues. “Hopefully, one day we will get back together,” she said. “And if we don’t, we just both want each other to be very, very happy.”
