Nike is promoting mental health awareness with these "In My Feels" sneakers, and we're totally in ours

Nike prides itself on using sport as a unifying force. The brand’s most recent endeavor, Nike By You X Cultivator, is an effort to engage communities and celebrate stories of individuals from different walks of life. The program selected 28 creatives from New York City, each of whom designed a custom sneaker inspired by their story.

Most recently, Nike selected psychotherapist and mental health advocate Liz Beecroft to design a special variation of the brand’s Air Max 270 React, called "In My Feels", to help promote mental health awareness.

The shoe itself is representative of mental health in every way.

For starters, its predominantly white exterior features notes of lime green, the official color that represents mental health awareness.

You’ll also notice a swiveled version of the iconic Nike swoosh on the side, which was intentionally designed to represent the idea that “healing isn’t linear,” Beecroft explained in an op-ed for Teen Vogue. It serves as a reminder that ups and downs are an inevitable part of everyone’s lives, she said.

Keeping with the mental health theme, the tongue of Beecroft's Air Max 270 React shoe design bears the words “Have a Nice Day,” accompanied by a flower, while the heels are embroidered with “In My Feels.” In a separate Instagram post, Beecroft elaborated on why creating a shoe that represents something so powerful is so important.

A portion of the proceeds from Beecroft's Air Max 270 React shoes will go to the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention. The shoes sold out fast, but they’ll be restocked on Nike’s website soon.
