Nike’s Pegasus 2K5 Is Poised to Be Its Next Hit Archival Running Sneaker
Running shoes from the 2000s and early 2010s have had a major presence in the lifestyle scene over the past few years, and Nike will indulge the trend further with the return of the Pegasus 2K5, formerly known as the Air Pegasus 2005.
The first of many Pegasus 2K5s will arrive in February with an original colorway featuring white, black, and silver. The monochromatic look sees dynamic suede paneling sitting above a mesh base, much like the recently revived Zoom Vomero 5 and the many archival New Balance models largely responsible for the trend.

The Stormtrooper look features small silver accents for the small profile Swooshes, toe cut-outs, and badges on the midsole and heel — the former two of which are reflective. Whereas the original Air Pegasus 2005 features a visible forefoot Air bubble, the new contemporary version is now shrouded in silver vertical stripes with “Full Length Nike Air” text. To denote the name change, which will surely appease lovers of all things Y2K, “Air Peg 2K5” is cut out of the tongue tag.
Nike’s Pegasus is its longest-running sneaker franchise, dating all the way back to 1983 with upgraded iterations arriving each year, with the exception of 1997 through 1999. With a neutral build, the everyday trainer is intended for runners of all levels. A full-length Zoom Air bag was added in 2018 for the Air Zoom Pegasus 35, which Nike said sold 12 million pairs in 12 months as the best-selling model in the franchise’s history. The current model, the Pegasus 40, focuses on comfort and stability through a new midfoot band and engineered interior patterns for the foot’s most sensitive areas
Continuing its pattern of reviving sneakers first through a collaboration before in-line releases, Nike tapped Comme des Garçons for a stripped-down version of the Pegasus 2K5 that dropped in October.
The Nike Pegasus 2K5 will release in its “White/Black” colorway Feb. 9, with several more (and more colorful) colorways set to follow throughout the year. Pricing is set at $150.
