Could Converse's classic Chuck Taylor All-Stars be the most famous sneaker of all time? Let's consider the evidence: The kicks, with their cotton canvas body and rubber toe-cap, have been around for literally 100 years{: rel=nofollow}. And over the past century, they've become a favorite sneaker of athletes and celebrities{: rel=nofollow} alike, which is a testament to their versatility. Not to mention, the All-Stars have seen little change to the classic design{: rel=nofollow} since its debut in 1917 (because why fix what's not broken?).

That is, until now.

Nike, which acquired Converse{: rel=nofollow} back in 2003, is giving the iconic Chuck Taylors a MAJOR makeover. Just how major? The silhouette of the high-top will remain the same—but that's about it.

Called the Chuck Taylor All Star x Nike Flyknit, the reimagined classic marks the first time that Nike is incorporating its Flyknit sneaker technology into the Converse brand, resulting in a "truly innovative version of the Chuck Taylor," according to a press release{: rel=nofollow} from Nike. That translates to a sleek, monochromatic TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane, or a very smooth rubber) toe-cap; a sneaker body made of the breathable Flyknit material; and a Nike Lunarlon{: rel=nofollow} (a soft foam that evenly distributes impact over your entire foot) sock liner. The brand-new sneakers will be available in six color combinations and retail for $110.

This is only the second time in 100 years that the All-Stars have undergone any type of makeover: Back in 2015, Nike released the Chuck Taylor II{: rel=nofollow}, which essentially kept the design the same but incorporated the aforementioned Lunarlon technology in the insole.

Nike hails{: rel=nofollow} the latest iteration as the "Chuck you've been waiting for"—but you'll have to wait a little bit longer to get your hands on a pair. The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star x Nike Flyknit Collection launches April 27, and there's a countdown clock on Nike's Web site to help you pass the time.
