These Nike Designers Just Made Air Jordans With Ladies in Mind

The world is about to change a little more for the better now that female-specific Nike Air Jordans are a thing, and WEJUSTCAN’TEVEN. TBH, this really couldn’t have come soon enough — women have historically been snubbed by the sneaker industry with trendier styles and cutting-edge collabs usually reserved for the gents. Well, not anymore. The Nike 1 Reimagined collection will be available come February 9, and we think the 14-person, all-female team absolutely *nailed* the new designs.

Thanks to the team’s design genius, we’ll see two new main styles — the Air Force 1 and the Air Jordan 1 — with five sub-styles of each, divided into the Sage, Rebel, Lover, Jester, and Explorer. The 10 different looks take into account trends and female-specific performance, with each shoe having a different appearance and overall vibe. “From a design point of view, each of the designers has a very unique background and personality,” said footwear director Andy Caine in an official statement. “Our theory is that when you mix diverse creative talents you realize some magic.”

And create magic, they did! These iconic basketball shoes have undergone a serious femme-inspired makeover without losing their Michael Jordan-inspired authenticity. Chic corset lacing, interior velvet lining, and edgy platform silhouettes are just a few of the ladylike details that have been integrated into the original designs. With options in velvet, suede, and white leather, and prices ranging from $120 to $160, these sneakers will be available exclusively on the Nike SNKRS app (only on iOS) beginning early this month.
