Nightwing Movie Cancelled

If you were hoping to see a live-action film starring DC superhero and Batman protégé Nightwing, you might be waiting a while. According to a trade reporter, the project is no more.

The Nightwing movie was due to be directed by Chris McKay, who has a host of big-hitters to his name. He’s best-known for helming two LEGO movies, as well as the well-received Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves and Renfield, and the less well-received The Tomorrow War and Doctor Dolittle.

It’s a mostly quality resume that could’ve led to a solid superhero film, but reports indicate it’s fallen through the cracks at DC. In response to a tweet that read: “I hope Chris McKay still gets to work on his Nightwing movie,” reporter and self-titled ‘ace scooper’ Umberto Gonzalez tweeted “That project is dead.”

Nightwing has undoubtedly been affected by the regime shift at DC, with James Gunn recently taking over as head of the studio and implementing a new plan for the next wave of films and TV shows. Still, it’s disappointing news for fans who have followed the saga for a while.

Back in 2017, McKay tweeted: “This movie will be different than LEGO Batman, different than any other Gotham based film or TV show and will be a wholly original look at Robin/Dick Grayson. Don’t lose hope.” Hope officially lost.

Anyway, the new-look DC Universe kicks off with Superman: Legacy, which enters theatres July 11, 2025. Meet your new Superman here.
