Nightdive Studios Is Remastering 1995’s ‘Star Wars: Dark Forces’

The Washington-based Nightdive Studios has made a name for itself over the past decade by buying the rights to abandoned games and remastering them for modern consoles. In the past, the developer has built updated versions of Blade Runner, Quake and Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, as well as the latter's sequel.
For its latest project, Nightdive will be taking up the first-person shooter Star Wars: Dark Forces. Originally released in 1995, the game was developed by LucasArts for computers and the following year, for PlayStation. The game follows a mercenary working for the Rebel Alliance who winds up discovering a secret project of the Galactic Empire concerning Storm Troopers, and ends up thrust into a series of action-packed missions.
In the reveal trailer, Nightdrive offered a brief glimpse into gameplay, seeing the protagonist take on Storm Troopers in battle. The remaster retains the vintage pixel graphics style, making it a fun play for those who are seeking an experience true to the original.
New to the game are trophies, achievements, advanced 3D rendering and of course, support for modern consoles.
Arriving sometime soon, the developer said Star Wars: Dark Forces will support 4K gameplay at 120FPS and will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC. More on the release timeline will be revealed later this year.
