Late night hosts have a ball with Trump’s rambling 'Fox & Friends' phone call

On Thursday morning, Donald Trump called into Fox & Friends and went on a long, rambling rant in which he railed against the media, admitted for the first time that Michael Cohen represented him in the Stormy Daniels matter, and graded his first 15 months in office, among many other things. In doing so, Trump also gifted late night TV hosts with a groundswell of easy jokes. When asked what grade he’d give himself, Trump replied, “I would give myself an A-plus. Nobody has done what I have been able to do, and I did it despite the fact that I have a phony cloud over my head that doesn't exist." On The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Colbert responded, “Sir, that’s not a phony cloud. That’s your hair.” Colbert also had fun with Trump’s supposed reason for calling in. Trump began the call with, “Good morning, and I picked a very, very special day because it’s Melania’s birthday. So I said, ‘Let’s do it on Melania’s birthday.’” Colbert said, “He also tried that line on Melania—no go.” On Late Night with Seth Meyers, the host thought Trump made a claim he believed to be false, and Meyers was not going to let that slide. “President Trump said today that he thinks NBC should treat him more fairly because he made the network a fortune. But I hate to break it to you, Donald, that’s Alec Baldwin,” Meyers said. On The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, they noticed the Fox & Friends hosts looked uncomfortable during the phone call. After showing a clip and cracking a joke, Fallon said, “Can we check back on the interview and see how it’s going?” They “cut back” and the couch was empty as Trump continued to rant. And finally, on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, the host may have summed up the feeling perfectly. After Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade finally cut Trump off, abruptly ending the interview, the camera cut back to Noah who was laughing hysterically.
