Alexander Wang isn’t showing a collection this Fashion Week. But that doesn’t mean he’s not showing up at all.

On Saturday, the designer threw one of his famous raucous parties at the Rainbow Room. The theme? Big Trouble in Little China(town), a nod to the Lunar New Year as well as his own Chinese-American heritage. The room was adorned with paper lanterns, hanging in harmony with the space’s signature chandelier. Everything was basked in a soft, red glow.

Kaia Gerber, Joan Smalls, Soo Joo Park, Binx Walton, and Tyler Mitchell mingled with Wang himself in the VIP room. The stage was a rotating platform of performers: Tommy Genesis, City Girls, Trina, and A$AP Ferg.

Until well past midnight, there was a line of guests (or, at least, hopeful ones) clamoring to get in. Some stuck to the “chinoiserie” dress code; others showed up in the sleek city looks that Wang is famous for. Exasperated security guards tried to contain the crowds to no avail. It was an evening for those looking to see, be seen, and experience quite the scene.
