A little black dress isn’t exactly a foreign concept on the red carpet. But leave it to Nicole Kidman to breathe new life into the wardrobe staple. The Australian actress has a reputation for fearless personal style, and her latest fashion moment was no different. When Kidman stepped out for the Swisse Wellness Power Your Passion event in Melbourne, Australia, last night, she put an elegant yet whimsical spin on an Old Hollywood classic.

Kidman looked nothing short of stunning in Marchesa’s velvet cocktail number with an ostrich-feather–trimmed bustier. While feathers can often read costume-y, in this case the simple black palette had a sophisticated effect. As it happens, the head-turning trend was all over the runways for Fall 2017, with fashion-forward feathers showing up everywhere, including Alexander McQueen and Prada. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Kidman toy with the idea in real life. When she wore Gucci’s sequin-and-fringe dress to the SAGs earlier this year, she gave new meaning to the phrase fashion peacocking.

Kidman took a more restrained approach on Saturday, though she did bring plenty of drama with her accessories. She wore bejeweled heels and carried a Roger Vivier clutch with a sequined closure and pearl tassel embellishment—because why settle for just one attention-grabbing piece when you can have several?
