Hate your boss? Well, at least they don’t force you to bring them innocent victims to harvest for blood. That’s the pitiful job description for Renfield, which follows Dracula's sorrowful assistant—who is just now beginning to wonder if there’s life outside of serving the Prince of Darkness. Starring The Menu’s Nicholas Hoult, the horror-comedy film just dropped its first, bloodsucking trailer, featuring toxic relationship support groups and a floating vampire played by Nicolas Cage. “I just want a normal life again!” Renfield whimpers.

Directed by Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War) and based on a story by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, Renfield brings Cage back to the world of Count Dracula for the first time since starring in 1988’s cult-horror classic Vampire's Kiss. The upcoming film, which features Awkwafina as the love interest and Ben Schwartz as a mobster named "Teddy Lobo," are clearly having a blast in the hilarious, action-filled trailer. The zingers, by the way, are thanks to a script written by Rick & Morty writer Ryan Ridley. “It’s amazing,” Cage told Variety about playing Dracula. “What makes it super fun is that it’s a comedy. And when you get that tone right—comedy and horror—like American Werewolf in London, it’s a blast. It’s got to be a bullseye. But that’s what I’m looking for, something new to bring to the character, and also that perfect tone of comedy and horror.”

Renfield premieres in theaters on April 14, 2023. Check out the trailer, streaming above, and pray that miserable Renfield figures out how to leave such a harmful work environment.
