Nicky Hilton opens up about why styling her shoes for high school was 'a really, really big deal'
To some people, shoes are just an accessory, but to Nicky Hilton, each pair of her shoes has meaning.
Instagram influencers Huston and Lexi, who are behind the popular account ShoesOf, got an exclusive look into Nicky Hilton’s closet to discuss some of the incredible stories behind her most interesting pairs of shoes.
Hilton spoke exclusively to Yahoo on when her love for footwear began.
“I went to all girls, Catholic, private school on the Upper East Side. The only thing we could style ourselves was our shoes, so it was a really, really big deal,” she said.
While showing off her favorite pairs, the businesswoman and mother of two showed off her collection of Christian Louboutin heels. Louboutin designed Hilton’s wedding shoe, wedding afterparty shoe and even sent her a special custom-designed pair of heels for her wedding night in July 2015.
“I love baby blue. I remember the first time seeing [Christian Louboutin’s] shoes, I saw the red soles – and I thought that was so clever. I thought if I ever design shoes, I will have powder blue soles.”
While Nicky and her sister, Paris, attended many New York Fashion Week shows together, she admits that they had very different approaches to style growing up.
“My sister, believe it or not, was always a tomboy, she didn’t care about shoes,” she says. “I care, I love the whole thrill of it.”
But Nicky has always loved shoes – and with her new collaboration with French Sole, she’s created stylish and comfortable shoes for women on the go.
“I have been wearing French Sole since I was in high school. We weren’t allowed to wear any heels, so we had to choose a flat,” she says.
As a mom, Hilton is always on the run and tends to rely on a good pair of reliable flats for school pickups and running errands. At this point in her life, she says comfort is key.
”You definitely don’t wear heels as much. Running around the city with a stroller, two children, a lot more flats,” she says. “Which is great, because I love flats.”
