Nicki Minaj has announced an upcoming, six-part documentary series about her rise to fame, navigating the industry as a female rapper, and everything it takes to succeed.

“Coming SOON!!!! The #NickiDocumentary you didn’t know you needed,” she announced on Twitter last night.

On Instagram, where she had more characters to work with, she added, “I took some time to perfect this very intimate, delicate, electrifying, inspiring body of work,” explaining the fear over how personal some of it is.

The over two minute trailer opens with a clip of a young Minaj that quickly segues into confetti blasting over a massive audience as she takes center stage.

“Female rappers weren’t really charting at the time,” she states in a voiceover, referring to her early career. “I’m fighting for the girls who never thought they could win.” The clip that follows shows Minaj realizing, “They need rappers like me.”

Clips from throughout her career flash by as Minaj reveals she never really wanted to be mainstream—but mainstream found her anyway.

She discusses the sexism and misogyny in the music industry, especially for female rappers, and how the industry merely pretends to be loving and supportive when, in reality, it can be deeply isolating. She also opens up about losing herself in self-medication and learning to love herself. As text in the trailer points out, the story is so raw it can only be told by a legend so real.

Fans are eager wait to watch the rapper's visual autobiography, as they took to the comments to share their excitement.

"The best surprise ever!!! 🔥😍😍 Thank you for sharing with us! We love you Queen! 💕❣️," wrote one fan page.

"The OG clip. Been here since the beginning 😍. We READY 👑," said another follower.

"Music HERSTORY," MTV commented.

Unfortunately, they'll have to wait a bit longer. Minaj says she’s still searching for the right streamer to debut the series—one that she can trust to handle her story with care—but promises it’s coming out sooner rather than later.
